I have a choice of installing a single server Exchange 2007 on...
Windows Server Standard 2003
Windows Server Standard 2003 R2
Windows Server Standard 2008
Windows Server Standard 2008 R2
What is the best version for Exchange 2007 to run on? There is only 1
exchange server it is also without an Edge server in the DMZ.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Windows Server Standard 2008 64-bit.
Exchange 2007 is not supported on Windows Server Standard 2008 R2. It is
supported on either Windows 2003 or Windows 2003 R2.

Ok - Windows Server Standard 2008 64-bit it will be and on the Exchange 2003
server I cannot compress the C drive.
Is there anything about Server 2008 that is different than loading on a
Server 2003 - what about the two versions of IP4 and IP6? The domain
controllers are be on Server 2003 for another year or so.
Thanks very much for your assistance!

Of course there are things that are different! I am not going to list
everything here; you are welcome to check out Microsoft's website for a
rundown. IPv6 installs by default, do not worry about it; you do not have to
make any configuration changes to it. I believe it is best to just leave it
installed because I have read and heard that Exchange setup can croak if it
is not installed. No changes to your domain controllers are necessary to
install a Windows 2008 member server.

Hi NC Beach Bum,
I am using a same cenario with Windows Server 2008 R2 (not supported but it is
working better then others) and Exchange 2007 Enterprise (more than 5 Mailbox
Databases).
You should check this URL to find Exchange Version Limitations, and find the
best solution to you.
You could also find on my blog (http://blog.danielcosta.pt) the solution to
install Exchange 2007 @ Windows Server 2008 R2.
