I believe MS update 973917 is the cause of this.
Had the same issue and removing this has resolved the problem.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for your reply.
That did fix the problem. I did need to reinstall Windows SP 2
afterwards, though.
The whole thing started when I tried to use Outlook 2007 with
RPC/HTTP. Has anyone got this to work? I maybe should start a
different thread on this?
issue affecting one client with email coming from one source! The mail shows up in outlook web access but does not show up in outlook 2007? If I do a search in exchange on the mailbox it shows the mail being delivered???? Even stranger if I open the mail in outlook web access it then appears in the inbox only after I close the web client I've tested from various outside accounts and it goes directly to the inbox in outlook client. I've logged in to a completely different machine using that user's name and password and set up and new outlook and still the same issue. I'm running exchange 2003 with service pack 2 on a member server with server 2003 service pack 2 and I also run Symantec endpoint on the machines. Outlook 2007 sp2 cached mode availability service Exchange Server Hello all running Exchange 2007 sp2, the cas and mbx server are on separate boxes and are both located in AD site1. The user community is all running Outlook 2007 sp2 and are located in AD site2, there is a DS3 connection between AD site1 CAS box or the MBX server. When I do a test email autoconfiguration using the outlook client, under protocol:Exchange RPC but the services are located at http: / / this is why I am confused the mailboxes free \ busy data to the availability service? and does the outlook client publish the data to the availability service, or does the availability service look at free \ busy data and then stores or publishes this data? Sudden Outlook / Exchange Communication Problem Exchange Server Hi, We've been using Exchange 2003 & Outlook 2003 successfully for about 4 years now. We've never had any real issues, and well. However, for some reason since Friday we've been getting communication problems between Exchange & Outlook. Yesterday I had a user complain that Outlook always opens in 'Work Offline' mode, no matter what mode you set it to be closing. If you click the connection status menu bar in the bottom right corner of Outlook, you can untick 'Work Offline' and Outlook connects, and sends / receives mail without any problem. I thought it might be a corrupt look into it. However, now this morning I have come in, and found that my Outlook is opening in offline mode by default as well, although as before, I can untick 'work offline' and Outlook connects & sends / receives fine. Also my 2nd mailbox (helpdesk) wasn't opening; I think the
