Failing Over Cluster Resources ----
Asked By WildPacket
26-Oct-09 01:44 PM
Installed the passive node in a SCC successfully after all ...
In ex2003 I could judt open the Cluster Admin Console right click and Move
group to failover the resources.
Is this still the same with Exhange 2007 clusters???? OR I have to use the
command shell???
Advise Please.
Thanks,

Hi there,
You can use the Command Shell, move-clusteredmailboxserver.
With SP1 you can also do this in the Exchange Management Console too. Let me
know if you need details on that - although if you locate the CMS it should
be self explanatory.
Note that you do not failover the cluster in failover clustering anymore.

Oliver thanks.
I am running Exchange 2007 with SP1. So I should be able to do it using the
Cluster Admin Console - Correct?????
I dont have a test env. to test it.
What you mean by ...you do not failover the cluster in failover clustering
anymore.
Thanks,
Yes please provide details on howto do from Exchange Management Console??

Why not?

Why not? I normally do so with the command:
CLUSTER GROUP "Cluster Group" /MOVE:<TARGER_SERVER>
It just seems like good practice to me. But I am interested in any
documentation that explains why it is not a good idea and/or is not necessary.

I am running Windows 2003Ent. with Exchange 2007.
Just want to confirm -
on my passive node in my computer I only see C: drive. And under my disk
management I see the SAN drives with red stop sign says ..unknown and
unreadable. No drive letters visible yet.
Is this because its passive node I guess ...once I fail over this should be
ok as this is ok on my active node?????
Advise Please.
Thanks,
it is been so long since I have done an SCC I will have to leave that for

it is been so long since I have done an SCC I will have to leave that for someone
else to answer. Now that CCR is available I cannot fathom the business value
of SCC.

Using cluster.exe bypasses Exchange healthchecks before the move:

Hey WP,
Yes the passive node will not be able to see the disks, as these are in the
Exchange SCC Cluster Group and are with the active CMS node.
So do not worry.

Hey,
Properties of the resource, in this case Tivoli Backup Resource, and select
'do not affect the group'.
Refer to your backup documentation on correctly configuring this resource

I am not suggesting using cluster.exe to move Exchange resources, I am
talking about the cluster (not CMS) name, cluster (not CMS) IP address, and
quorum. Why not move those with cluster.exe as per my command below, which
does not effect any changes to the CMS resources.
