Exchange Server - Email Testing, SMTP SMTPS SMTP over TLS,

I am working testing outgoing email from a program my company writes.
We have tested port 465 and 587 using smtp.gmail.com, but wanted to
make sure it is compatible with exchange as well. Without setting up
an exchange environment how can I validate this? is there any tools,
or can I trust google and microsoft are using a standard protocol and
they should interact the same. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would think that the only way to test this with Exchange would be to
set up an Exchange test environment.
