Exchange Server - Explorer 8 & Web access-Crashes

Asked By Bill on 12-Apr-10 02:11 PM
I installed Windows 7 and Explorer 8 on 3 computers at our small non-profit.
Mostly, it worked fine. However, when someone tried to use email offsite,
with Outlook web access, we could not type in the body of the email.

Then I discovered the instructions to: Under Options: "Click here to
install the S/MIME Control" I did that. It fixed the first problem. I can now
type in the body of an email message. It lets me do a new message, type the
email address, subject, etc.

However, when I click "Send," it crashes. Gives error: "Internet Explorer
has stopped working" No error code.

Using Windows 7, Internet Explorer 8, and Web Access for Outlook, Exchange
2003

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? How can I send email, using
Outlook Web Access? Internet Explorer seems to work fine in all other usages.
It lets me read email, can click "new" and type email message. Just cannot
click "Send.

The updates have been done on the Exchange Server.

Thank you,
Bill

If you run OWA in Web Access Light Mode do you still get the crashes? Have
you run Windows Updates on the Win 7 computers? Any errors generated in Win
7 Event Log when this happens?

Did you try the IE compatibility mode button?

Lee.

Thanks John and Lee,

It turned out there was an Exchange update that fixed it:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829/en-us

I guess this update does not get done automatically, when you turn
on"Automatic Updates." Doing this update manually fixed the problem.

It says:
Symptom: Outlook Web Access: You receive an error message when you try to
perform any editing tasks, or you must click to enable the compose frame in
Outlook Web Access

It says: This behavior occurs because Windows Vista no longer includes
support for the ActiveX control that is used for HTML editing in Outlook Web
Access.

Thank you,
Bill
