I need to know how I can add a new Exchange 2003 server to my domain.
Most importanly I need to know how to get all of the old Exchange information
out of my DC's AD so my new Exchange 2003 server will not have issues.

Hi,
Install windows with the same servername as the original server, install
exchange and servicepacks with the /disasterrecovery option and restore the
Exchange data.

I actually only have 1 mailbox (I use exchange at home) and I exported the
inbox out already (I had it in Exchange cache mode). So I am actually just
going to install Exchange on a new server and add the 1 mailbox and then
import back in the data that way. Do I still follow the same setps you just
described? I am just fearful that AD will look at this new Exchange server
as a secondary exchange server on my domain. That is one thing I don't need.

You just install it into the same org, move mailboxes, replicate public
folders, etc. However, if your old Exchange 2003 is completely crashed, you
can'tdo this. Do you have a good backup? That's where you'd start.
Leif Pedersen [MVP] replied...
Hi,
If you just install a server with a new name you will get lots of problems.
All system public folders are pointing to the old server, RUS and OAB are
pointing to the original server etc.
If you follow my procedure everything will get back to normal.

Jo replied...
Yeah, I plan on naming it the same name. OK, I am going to set it up now.
Jo replied...
Leif, it says to have the partition and configure the hard disks the same as
you had in the old Exchange server. I do not remember exactly how large the
old HD was. I think around 30 gig. I only had it setup as C: My new HD is
120 Gig, can I just format the whole 120 Gig and leave it as one large C:?
Will that still work for the setup?
Jo replied...
I only have 1 mailbox on it(It is my home Exchange server) which I exported
out the inbox before it crashed. Now I need to setup a whole new Exchange
server on my domain but do not want it to be seen as a second Exchange
server, so I need to be able to get all of the information from te old
Exchange server out of my Dc's AD.
Leif Pedersen [MVP] replied...
Hi,
That should work unless you had other partitions on the original server -
you need to have the same drives in the new server.

Jo replied...
Now that I think of it, I think I only had a C:, but I may have had a C and D
where I loaded Exchange on D: If so, what happens if I load Exchange on C:
this time?
Jo replied...
Is there any way through AD to check whether my last Exchange was setup on C:
or D:?

Domain Change on SBS2003 R2 w / exchange 2003 Exchange Server I have posted this to 2 differnt groups not knowing which would actually be orig-domain.com" as my 2nd mail server so I could utilize SharePoint and the Exchange features on the server. I have found out, not sure if it is correct or configuration was correct. With the original domain no mail would send or recieve through the exchange server. DNS was set to point the URL "location.orig-domain.com" to the IP the URL change, and if so will I need to do any edits in the exchange folders for the current users, or in exchange itself so it eliminates reference to the old url Is there and "How To" to accomplish this? We only have 15 exchange, SBS users so the edits would not be bad doing it manually if needed. And no I am not an accomplished SBS or Exchange administrator I just fix it as I see something wrong, it usually takes many questions
