Exchange Server - OWA and Calendar doesn't work after KB926666 and KB924334 update
Asked By chri

Hi
After installing the KB926666 and KB924334 exchange server updates, OWA in
general and some outlook client calendar functions (free/busy; auto accept
agent) doesn't work. Every outlook client calendar user action generates an
error in the exchange 2003 enterprise server event log. The outlook client
user receives no message. The OWA user receives a http error, connecting the
exchange server.
The EXCDO (8207) errors in the exchange server event log are based on the
EXOLEDB (103) error, which appears after the informationstore service starts.
I found out, that there is a problem with the exoledb.dll. Both updates
replace the exoledb.dll and both exoledb.dll generates problems. If I replace
this dll from the update by the dll from SP2, there are no problems and no
errors in the exchange environment, OWA and the outlook client calendar works
fine. If I replace the dll from the SP2 by the dll from each of the updates,
I have all the problems and errors described above. So, I suppose, there must
be a problem with this updates, especially the exoledb.dll.
Tanks a lot for your support.

Hello Chris,
Thank you for posting here.
Thank you for your sharing about your resolution.
From your description, the update of KB926666 and KB924334 may not update
the Exoledb.dll File correctly. So I suggest you to down the updates again
from Microsoft web site and try again.
There is a general KB about this issue, for your reference:

Hello Terence
The update process of KB926666 and KB924334 seems to work fine. The
exoledb.dll from KB926666 has Version 6.5.7651.61 and 2'555KB, the
exoledb.dll from KB924334 has Version 6.5.7651.60 and 2'551KB. After each
update the exoledb.dll is copied to the "C:\Programme\Exchsrvr\bin" directory
and the dll is registred. I have also stopped all exchange services manually
and reinstalled the KB Updates. I reregistred also the dll, but without
success. In the log file of each update, there is an entry, that the
exoledb.dll ist copied.
I will now check your links for futher information and give you some more
feedback.

Hello Terence
I have checked your inputs. The SP2 was installed, before I installed
KB926666 and KB924334. The time zone update is KB926666 (Version 2), whose
exoledb.dll generates the problems, described below. I read in the KB, that
the time zone update has no impact on OWA.
Question, is it important to update the AD Connector. I read in the KB, that
this update is not done with the SP2 update and must be executed separately?
With the exoledb.dll from SP2, the OWA and Outlook exchange and AD connection
works fine.
Because we are a hospital, I must organize a timeout, to shut down the
exchange services. I will plan this for next week, so I can execute any
support tasks.
Thank your for your assistance.

Hello Terence
I am back and I have executed some tests this morning. For the first time, I
have an error message in the exchange server windows event log. It is an
exoledb 122 error, "Microsoft Exchange OLEDB was unable to initialize
property table". Searching the Internet, I could found some older articles,
describing a public folder problem. The reason therefore is a permission
problem in Active Directory. My problem is not focused on public folder, OWA
does not run in general. If my problem is a permission problem, why does OWA
work with the older Exoledb.dll from SP2? Is it possible, that Microsoft
changed something in the ACL of the Exoledb.dll? Open is also the question
updating the Active Directory Connector with the exchange SP2?

Chris et al,
It sounds like I am having the same problem as you are Chris. As soon
as I add KB926666, OWA will not allow users to login and displays a
503 error message. If I remove the patch (KB926666), then all is well
and back to normal operation. I have not yet found a workaround for
this problem.
Have you been in contact with anyone from Microsoft that could shed
additional light on the subject? Time is running out and I'm not sure
what else could be done at this point.
Thanks -

If the issue persists, I suspect that databases could be corrupt, you can
try the following steps:
1. Stop store cluster resource
2. Dismount stores
3. Rename mdbdata to mdbdata1
4. recreate mdbdata directory
5. Start the store.exe
6. Mount the db's

Hope the steps help.

In the early morning, I made some tests based on your ideas. Recreating the

Hello Chris,
Thank you for kind update.
The problem resolved by creates a new exchange database with new mailbox.
That means the exchange database corrupted for some reasons.
There are many possible reasons for the exchange database corrupted. For
example: Antivirus software scans, suddenly power off, incorrect backup and
restore and so on.
Now, we can not make sure which reason causes the exchange database
corrupted. However, I'm very glad we found the root cause of this issue.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if this problem reoccurs or if
there's anything else I can do for you.
