Exchange Server - Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 x64

Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 x64. I ordered Windows Server
Standard R2 x64 in anticipation of running Exchange Server 2007, which I also
ordered. Microsoft sent me Exchange Server 2003 instead. If Exchange Server
2007 not available yet? Also, I already installed and configured Windows
Server 2003 R2 x64. Now I find in the documentation on
www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2003/sysreqs.mspx that
Exchange 2003 does not run on 64 bit versions of Windows Server 2003.

1. Is Exchange 2007 coming soon?
2. Can I get around this in the mean time without having to reinstall
Windows Server 2003 Standard with the non-64 bit version?
3. is there a way to "downgrade" to Windows Server Standard 2003 R@ without
reinstalling from scratch?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Chaplain,

- Exchange Server 2007 RTMed in early December 2006. It should be available
now. Contact your rep if you've got the wrong media.
- Exchange Server 2007 will not install on Windows Server 2003 x86 (32-bit)
OS
- Exchange Server 2003 will not install on Windows Server 2003 x64, you will
need the 32-bit Windows Server OS
- You cannot downgrade from x64 to x32, afaik. Unfortunately, you will need
to reinstall the OS.

You are correct, exchange 2003 will not work with the x64 version of windows server 2003. I had the same problem. I ended up downloading the 2007 ISO file from eopen.microsoft.com.

Domain Change on SBS2003 R2 w / exchange 2003 Exchange Server I have posted this to 2 differnt groups not knowing which would actually be the for connectivity reasons and tried to use "location.orig-domain.com" as my 2nd mail server so I could utilize SharePoint and the Exchange features on the server. I have found out, not sure if it is correct or not that I cannot make "location.orig-domain.com" resolve correctly as a mail server, so as an alternative I have acquired a second url "new-domain.com" , that I configuration was correct. With the original domain no mail would send or recieve through the exchange server. DNS was set to point the URL "location.orig-domain.com" to the IP
