Exchange Server - Migration from E2003 to 2010

Hi,
I experienced an issue during a migration/parallel installation of an
Exchange server 2010 in an Exchange 2003 environment.
Short description: SBS2003 with Exchange 2003 on current patch level; all
modes are 2003; installed E2010 as it is described in the TechNet-Guide
('Install Exchange 2010 in an Existing Exchange 2003 Organization'
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638130.aspx); server OS for
E2010 is 2008 R2 Enterprise; installation process reported no error during
installation. During the steps in the TechNet-guide there is a verification
section which mention to set up a new postbox on the 2010 and send a mail to
a box on the 2003 -> successful; the way back from a 2003-box to the newly
created box at the 2010 -> the mail gets not delivered.
Here we are where the problem is.
Exploring the mail tracking on the 2003 shows on a regular cycle (every
20mins) the following entry (translated, therefore may a bit different in
english wording ;-):
date time SMTP: Start outbound transport
date time Mail through SMTP to servername.blablabla.bla transmitted
No errors in the eventlog of both servers.
The 2003 logfile shows a connection from 2010 to 2003 on a regular base with
a HELO and an successful authentication, but no entry for the other
direction of the traffic.
Any ideas?
Thanks a million!
Cheers
/AS

Verify that you have routing group connectors for both directions.

Hi Ed,
the mail stuck in the queue named 'TESTSBS-TESTEX1 (Routinggroupconnector)'
which got automatically installed during the setup. This Queue uses the
default virtual SMTP connector of E2003. Hope that?s what you asking for.
If not, please specify where I should find the connectors to check.
Thanks for your help
Cheers

Any idea why it the mail is stuck in the queue? What does the queue viewer
tell you? You could try turning on protocol logging to see if there is any
information there.

I just can't find it. Here are the symptoms. Soon after turning on the SMTP connecter my out bound queue fills with NDRs destine to what appears to be domains and packet captures. BTW with the packet capture it always seems as if the initial SMTP communication is made by my server. - - Rob Robert, Have you checked the running processes in be originating from another PC but the packet logs I have don't indicate any SMTP traffic from any other PC on the net. When I start up the SMTP connecter my Outbound messages awaiting connection queue also fills with items.
